A Quick Announcement about Johnny Pippins

Johnny Pippins has served 26 years of a 30-year-prison sentence for murder. He now wants to be a free man, so he can get his Ph.D in sociology at the University of Iowa. But the 52-year-old can’t pursue his doctorate degree unless Gov. J.B. Pritzker grants him clemency.

Johnny Pippins, who I’ve written a lot about in this space, is making some progress in his clemency plea. Last month, WBEZ did a story about Johnny. Yesterday, the Chicago Sun-Times published an editorial urging Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker to release him. We’d like to capitalize on this publicity by asking readers who feel moved to do so to tweet in support of Johnny using some variation on the following language and hashtags:

As we approach the 11th hour we, continue to support Johnny Pippins’ (@free2phd) plea for clemency & support Illinois leaders @GovPritzker @LtGovStratton @RobertJPeters in heeding our call to recognize his story. #johnnypippins #TimeServedHim
