Amy's comments were quite disturbing in her broad brush strokes of racial essentialism. I'm an Asian who grew up in a conservative (white) church (reformed baptist!) I started as a Ditto-head in high school, went apathetic in college, and then eventually became a Democrat because of the dual bungling of Katrina and the Iraq war. I'd prefer small government, but not at the expense of competent government. Obama and Biden might not have been great, but they are better than the dumpster fire of the Trump administration.

In fact, I primarily listen to conservative commentators because I find a lot of their arguments appealing. However, the white nativist sentiments of the past four years scare me and I don't trust that the current Republican party will govern in good faith.

I guess I'm saying that I'm a gettable voter - heck, I'm open to the idea of across the board immigration restriction, etc. However excluding an entire race of immigrants merely due to voting patterns and broad orientalist stereotypes about cultural proclivities (conformity, status seeking, etc.) undermines any legitimacy to her argument. If anything, it reinforces the narrative of the Republican party and conservatives as a white nationalist movement.

I'm glad Amy is out there fearlessly speaking her mind. I think she's flummoxed that Asians vote for Democrats when the results are, for example, the San Francisco crime wave in which Asians are the main victims.

On the other hand, Asians have low divorce rates, low out-of-wedlock birth rates, low crime rates, low school dropout rates, etc., etc. They regularly bust their tails working hard, be it school or career. And, anecdotally, as I've mentioned before, Asians are big boosters of Western classical music. Not much to complain about there.

By the way, I don't think these two things will co-exist for long: (1) The anti-Asian crime wave, (2) Asians continuing to vote for Democrats. Something has to give.
