Since moving to the South, I've seen the Confederate statues and lots of rebel flags. It's funny to see the young white boys with Confederate decal flags plastered on their trucks and playing rap music. I haven't been to Stone Mountain yet, where I'm told several blacks reside. I've gotten used to seeing the Confederate symbols. I used to work with rednecks. I covered them and they covered me. I legally carry firearms. I live in Trump territory (70% of GOP voters). So far, no major problems.
The only time problems arise is when efforts are made to remove the statues. The Confederate hypocrites then change from bastardizing history to protect white children to we need to preserve our history good or bad. The fact that they complain about 1619, but promote PragerU tells you exactly who they are.
We are fed “academics” like Robert Cheek who quotes a cherry-picked tale thale the quality of the enslaved fulfilled accepted nutritional guidelines. If you read slave narratives, it is very easy to refute that nonsense. If you read other academic writings on slave life, the diet of the slave is found to be lacking, but we get cherry-picking Robert Cheek as the standard bearer.
You cannot rationalize with Confederates, you can only vote to keep them from access to power. Look at the long list of powerful Confederates tge GA Grand Jury was ready to indict. The Confederates are the Swamp.
I visited Germany a few years ago, and the remembrance of the holocaust is everywhere. Walking through some of the memorials was quite chilling.
