One of them said, “I’d like to be treated like an adult,” during our class introductions. He resents that students have to introduce themselves and say their major, considers it childish. Funny part is so do I, but I realize that “non traditional” is code for didn’t have their shit together enough to not be in the room full of twenty-one year olds who did get it right. I’m saying this as a thirty one year old non traditional student, it’s a criticism of empathy. He also resented that he had to put his phone away, of course I’m going to be judgmental. I wouldn’t miss if it were a Glenn or John doing this, I do pay attention.
Honestly I’m in a position. I’m wondering should I speak in defense of CRT? Should I just sit back and watch? For me this is a lesson that Woke is not strictly ideologically based. It can disrupt and disregard without picking and choosing. White people talking books is just white people talking books. It really is that racist.
