DeLarge soon got his wish. White minority politicians took over the state legislature and enacted black codes---100 years of peonage or semi-slavery (Jim Crow). DeLarge's political naivete land bill laid the foundation of Jim Crowism. Similar naivete was demonstrated by black leaders during the Great Civil Rights Movement that occurred a century later. They accepted public claims of a "colorblind society", equal opportunity society without having resolved the historical inequalities between races---maldistribution of wealth and power to whites based on black slavery and Jim Crowism.
Conservatives have espoused a role and solution for blacks that has not changed an iota since the country was founded. Conservatives believe in a natural order of human beings and have always preferred that blacks play a servile role in society.

Europeans got the headstart with genocide, billions of acres of free Indian land, abundant free African labor, colonization, Jim Crowism/apartheid, and structural racism, which maldistributed massive generational wealth and power to whites.
