There is only one best seller list that matters: NY Times, and not certain if they include pre-pub sales in their surveys. As you’re a first time entrant to the trade publishing game Norton may be hedging a tad. No mystery why pub houses like pre-pub sales: a) money up front, b) full retail - no middleman, c) NO RETURNS. You have a large following of opinion leaders (pro and con, and sometimes the latter has more impact) and your publisher should give it some serious horse power, as I’m sure they are…
