Re the concentration camp ref: Edward Shills, Committee on Social Thought sociologist at Univ of Chicago was appointed chair of task force to “rehabilitate” holocaust survivors, ie., carefully nurture them back into the civilized world. What he found was that they didn’t want nurturing, or therapy. Or to dwell on their ordeals: they wanted to get back to LIVING. That’s what humans - and animals for that matter - do.

Boris Pasternak wrote a great novel and David Lean made into the best film in history, imo. Glenn is on the money on that front. There’s a book about the CIA’s Keystone Cops project to convert it (the book) into one of their many Cold War agit-prop escapades. Fun summer reading, and a reminder how our tax dollars are (and were half a century ago) allocated…
