Post-Show: Trump's Worst Ideas

Tariffs, migrants, lawfare, and the need for approval

This week I talked with historian Daniel Bessner. Like me, Danny is no fan of Kamala Harris. If he’s smarting from Trump’s win, Kamala’s loss must provide at least some consolation. While Danny’s politics are far, far further left than my own, I think we at least came together around this: the Democratic Party has only itself and its blithe elitism to blame for its underperformance. Danny might add that Trump’s win is a symptom of the terminal state of mid-twentieth century small-L liberalism. I wouldn’t go that far, but it’s obvious that the country just wasn’t buying the Democrats’ attempt to portray Trump as a fascist dictator, and that strategy did little to distract from the Harris campaign’s lack of vision, as well as the candidate’s own shortcomings.

As I’ve said before, I thought Trump’s actions after the 2020 election were disqualifying. That’s a moot point now, but there are reasons to be wary of some of his proposals, which I raise in this post-show conversation with Nikita. Here are three examples.
