I agree. I watched the video and listened to them explain how China tracks individuals, puts the data into a database, gives access to app developers, financial institutions, etc. This is after he said it was just a bunch of spreadsheets. Then they go on to explain that is for reasonable motives. So, we're wrong to call it a social credit system. Are they practicing the talking points to help Americans be more trusting in our own government tracking our data? Are they so short sighted? Why would they assume increased automation isn't to come? Freedoms sacrificed to good motives are often abused and corrupted. And I'm supposed to believe the Chinese government really only has good motives?
Lastly, just because people on the street aren't aware of the system doesn't say much. I didn't know that women could have a penis until about 8 months ago. By the time I was aware that all white people are racist, DEI was already in my company and white employees were being trained to be "less white". This is because I was only tapped into mainstream news sources. Sure I'd heard some of it, but I didn't have the whole picture and didn't give it much thought. It's hard for me to believe that the Chinese people, who are much less likely to hear anything but propaganda from the government, would be aware that this was taking place before it is much more advanced.
Might I add, several things on the Hoover Institute site (the Good Fellows, Uncommon Knowledge, Battlegrounds),Heterodox Academy, Triggernometry (British), the Spectator's Week in 60 mins (British).
