Yes, how many press encounters that aren't pre-scripted and soft-balled by chosen "reporters" has Biden done? Trump faced the hostile press all the time.
1. The only purpose of a presidential debate is to hear the candidates "make their points".
2. We should simply trust John (and presumably his friends at the New York Times and others of their ilk) that Trump would only roar, scream, ridicule, and name-call and that Biden would "try" to make his points. (John subtly implies that the only reason he might not succeed in making his points would be Trump's disruptive behavior.)
In fact:
1. There are many other reasons to have a presidential debate, including to see for ourselves how the candidates comport themselves and, particularly in this contest, to see how mentally sharp they appear to be.
2. We should not trust John and the others to simply tell us how the debate would go and what we would and would not glean from it.
Trump cannot answer questions? He spars with reporters almost every day, sometimes for 10-15 minutes, does a lot of interviews. Poor John...
Everybody knows why Democrats will never allow Biden to have a debate, but at least Mr. McWhorter needs to come up with something more inventive.
