Debate is a kind of non-physical combat. If Trump, in all his bravado and machismo, demands a debate, Biden simply cannot refuse the challenge and maintain his honor.
Biden knows he can’t back down. That would be a concession of defeat.
And anyway, Biden had a great State of the Union. He’s always been a strong debater. In my view, he should be chomping at the bit to debate Trump and once again show the American people why he’s the right man for the job.
What he would show, tragically, is that he's a frail, old man who suffers from dementia. His State of the Union was not great; it was frightening. That was not some sort of steely-eyed determination we saw -- ready to lead the country through increasingly stormy waters; it was unfocused partisan rage directed at those who would seek to unseat him.
There is no way he is 'chomping at the bit' to debate. Rather his handlers are doing their very best to make sure it never happens. Like the old saying about the tree which falls...if you're a clueless fool blithering in the forest...and no one gets close enough to actually hear that...I guess the question becomes: how many votes will he get?
"Biden knows he can’t back down. That would be a concession of defeat." - His caretakers will definitely choose this defeat over showing the public what Biden is now. Not even a choice they would consider.
This may be John’s worst take ever.

Please, please. Let Joe do it.
