You're an accomplished economist and intellectual and I've learned a lot from you, but what I admire most about you is that you're a truly decent human being. Many people have pointed out that with the advent of smartphones the full scope of human knowledge is readily available at our fingertips. But while knowledge seems to be more accessible than ever these days, character seems to be in increasingly short supply. There are too many demagogues, trolls and assholes among the pundit class, people with axes to grind who are part and parcel of the increasing ideological balkanization we find ourselves confronted with. Somehow, we've lost the ability to just talk to one another decently.
Glenn, you're one of the most intellectually honest people I've met. You treat your interlocutors fairly and with an open mind toward better understanding their points of view. You remain level-headed no matter how heated the rhetoric might get and rather than trying to score cheap political points, I can tell that your heart is in the right place and that your main objective is to try to make this world a better place. For that I truly respect you.
