Thanks for this best of extravaganza! Coming in with a movie recommendation - just watched A Piece of the Action starring Bill Cosby and Sydney Poitier, from 1977 - it was a really fun movie on its own, but it was so interesting to see essentially the same social issues that are currently at the center of controversy (authenticity, the "bourgeois sellout", and the challenges of getting young people to work in their own enlightened self interest) played out before I was even born. It's the third in a series of three movies Poitier and Cosby did (with an amazing performance from Harry Belafonte as gangster "Geechee Dan" in the first one), and while they're all worth watching, A Piece of the Action had some staying power.
Thanks for a great year of intellectual stimulation, here's to a spectacular 2023!
