A few weeks ago, I had the the political scientist Norman Finkelstein on the show, and I’m still getting emails about it. Norman’s pro-Palestinian, anti-Zionist positions have made him an unpopular figure among many of his fellow Jewish Americans. In this clip from my latest conversation with John McWhorter, we explore what makes Norman so controversial and why so many people were upset by his TGS appearance.
This is a clip from the episode that went out to paying subscribers on Monday. To get access to the full episode, as well as an ad-free podcast feed, Q&As, and other exclusive content and benefits, click below.
I became a paid subscriber as the result of the episode. Here is my explanation for why, which I wrote to Glenn:
"Long-time listener, finally subscribing. Your episode with Norman Finkelstein did the trick -- even though I couldn't disagree with him more profoundly. Yet, I learned from him and your conversation with him. Many of the people I follow talk big about speaking with people with whom they disagree. But, you are the one who makes a point of doing so. Your episodes with Briahna Joy Gray, Richard Wolff , Norman Finkelstein, etc. are essential for me to hear. Platform everyone, I say. Thank you for doing so."
I was very appreciative of you having Norman Finkelstein on your show. Is he outlandish? Yes. Is he now or has he in the past been on the Hezbollah payroll? I do not know, but certainly would not be surprised.
After listening to your conversation with Finkelstein, I ordered and read his extensively footnoted book. I found his ramblings to be at times borderline incoherent, much like his mentor Noam Chomsky. They’re both about 95-percent nuts. But because they have a dedicated following on the hard, hard left, I find it important to hear or read what they have to say.
So thank you Dr Loury for promoting free speech by have Finkelstein on your program.
Now onward!!
