Great discussion. I want to address Glenn's questions about how a young black kid, who sees disproportionate numbers of wealthy and powerful Jews in America and sees an allegedly “white colonial” Israel retaliating “disproportionately” against Hamas. Jewish and Israeli wealth and power easily lead people to forget that we are a tiny population. Think about it: there are approximately 37 million black Americans. There are around 14 million Jews in all the world. Whatever wealth and power we may, or may not, have does not protect us from people intent on genocide against us.

Jews live with the knowledge that non-Jews relentlessly organize against us. Today, they are intent on destroying Israel because they know Israel’s demise could deliver a deadly blow to us as a people. We live with the burden of ensuring Jewish survival, and that burden is real. We feel it in our bones, because so many have tried to wipe us out.

I think this is an important point that is often overlooked; however, it can provide deep perspective. Thanks to you and Bari for the great conversation.

Great discussion. I see the BIPOC-Jews as a place of “we”, more in common than not. Failure of “anti-racism” to see this is a result of unprofessionalism. Professionalism is scientific, methodical, comprehensive in analysis. Unprofessionalism is random, bias, speculation and profound blind spots at each location of pathway X.

Glenn Loury is a sane person in a mad world. I cannot tell you how much it restores me to read pieces such as this.

Speaking of Bari Weiss... quite a firestorm about Dr. Aruna Khilanani's speech at Yale. Pretty extreme, but that's what free speech is all about. I'm sure Yale will balance things out by inviting Charles Murray to speak.

Loved this conversation. Would have loved to hear what the two of you would suggest doing to increase GDP growth in the West Bank. Would have also liked to hear your perspectives on the socio-economic success of Israeli citizens of Palestinian heritage. They now represent 35% of Israeli doctors and large percentages of various other skilled and elite parts of Israel. If Bedouins, Christians (including Syriacs, Copts and Armenians), Druze, Ahmadiyya, Samaritans, Circassians are included they number 2 million or 23% of the population.
