With race-based affirmative action not long for this world, attention has turned to legacy admissions. Many elite universities admit the children and grandchildren of alumni, even when those students don’t necessarily measure up to other applicants. Personally, I think universities have every right to continue this practice, but John McWhorter and economist Peter Arcidiacono see things differently.

How do you justify a legacy admission of a previous affirmative action admission? I think you have to get off the carousel sooner than later.
I agree wholeheartedly with Mr. McWhorter on legacy admissions. Family connections or family money should play no part in moving an applicant’s admission to the front of the line.
