Sorry to be pessimistic but not expecting any real change. Same old worn out ideas that don't obviously work

Lakeview is a wealthy mostly white neighborhood and it had the most thefts at Walmart compared to the little village and south side communities who are predominantly Latino and black respectively. Some of this can be explained by population density of each neighborhood but certainly not all so I'd take that data with a grain of salt so to speak.

Johnson has no chance of succeeding but count me amazed if he even TRIES. I fully expect him to continue to pander to the hard left progressive base, demonize police, defend criminality, raise taxes to confiscatory levels, blame guns, racism and white supremacy for all the failures while keeping the CTU graft spigot wide open. Lightfoot’s term may resemble a golden age before he’s done.

I genuinely hope I’m wrong. Chicago was once one of my favorite cities in America, but I never expect to go there again.

No. His best strategy would be to resign and let the adults do their jobs.

Nearly 60 YEARS AGO, Patrick Moynihan pointed out the high rate of families headed by single mothers would greatly hinder progress of blacks toward economic and political equality. And at the same time LBJ's Great Society promoted single mother families with both carrot and stick. More than 20 TRILLION DOLLARS worth of I'm-from-the-government-and-I'm-here-to-help later, 80% ! of black babies are growing up with no father in the picture. As Shakespeare observed, "the evil that men do lives after them."

How about it, black voters? Is this a Great Society or what? Dontcha think 60 years is long enough to figure out that LBJ's dream is your nightmare? You are killing 10 subadult black kids per month, some of them infants and children, just in Chicago. They are not being killed by "guns," or by white cops, or by white folks; they are being killed by your fatherless sons.

Mother's Day is coming up. How about it, moms? In twelve years of elementary and high school, the city will spend $360,000 on your kid, enough to buy a house. Can your kid read? What are you doing about it?

How about it, pastors? Your flock can't shop locally, can't find work nearby even in retail, because a handful of incorrigible shoplifters are driving big companies away. What are you doing about it? How about a nice sermon on "Thou shalt not steal?"

Had enough yet? This won't stop until YOU stop it.

We can debate endlessly and come up with excellent ideas that would result in massive improvements - but it's all a waste of time. The left has only one play:

Double down on illogical, failed policies.

Johnson is another minstrel show Democrat who is an unregenerate leftist who will continue the same failed policies of the past 50 years. One party corruption will continue to plague the city unless voters come to their senses and help bring a revival of the Republican party and restore a two party system to the city. I doubt that will happen anytime soon but at some point the moral bankruptcy of the Democratic party will become too big to ignore any longer.

Curious about the Lakeview crime statistics. For the non-Chicagoans, Lakeview is emphatically NOT a poor neighborhood, nor one I associate with high crime. They seem so incongruous I kind of wonder if the the chart isn't mislabeled.

The Walmart store in Lakeview was on Broadway at Diverstiy, that area has had retail leaving the area for years, Century Mall is a ghost town, BBB are scheduled to close, the Ace hareware store closed years ago, so on and so on....

What would Johnson have to do to save Chicago?

Move to Nebraska?

Wow, guys. I'm a big fan, but that's a pretty pedestrian set of policy suggestions.

Great review of accurate data describing a terrible situation, created by Democrat Party (Glenn & John supported) policies over decades. If Chicago voters aren’t willing enough to vote for Republicans, it’s certain they won’t be willing to do enough of what needs to be done. The real power of Democracy is to vote OUT the party now in power to try to do better. Dem run cities mostly fail to do that and fail to get better.

Mr. Roscoe, I just read this incredible article in the Free Press on how Canada is now moving to directly considering race/identity in sentencing....thought it would interest you.

"Is Justice Still Blind in Canada?

Equality under the law is the cornerstone of liberal democracy. But judges across the country are now factoring race into sentencing."

Given that the Chicago police had a secret prison that housed mostly Black inmates.I do not see how trust with the community can be regained.

If Chicago police are quitting because they feel a new mayor will hold them to a legal standard, it suggests Chicago police culture is a major part of the problem. Better educated and better trained police would be the answer. The rate limiting step is that if you a better educated and want to serve the community, why would you choose a department like Chicago?

It seems that attempts to reform policing will fail because those at the top trained the officers on the streets. Police reform is not going to happen.

Good luck with that, no one wants to be a cop anymore, not when its "catch and release" for the bad guys....
