This year, TGS fans have seen a lot of the Marxist economist Richard Wolff. He first appeared back in August in a conversation with John McWhorter and me, and this past week I posted a recording of a debate Rick and I had about the relative merits of socialism and capitalism (hosted, of course, by my lovely wife LaJuan).
Anyone who’s watched these episodes can see that I disagree with Rick on any number of economic and political issues. And I’m not the only one. The libertarian economist Gene Epstein has debated Rick in the past, and he wrote in with some rebuttals to Rick’s critiques of capitalism and defenses of socialism, so I decided to invite him on the show. This episode features my conversation with Gene intercut with clips from Rick’s first TGS appearance. You’ll see Gene respond point by point, but in the course of the conversation, we have occasion to discuss the ideas of key libertarian thinkers of the Austrian School, like Friedrich von Hayek, Joseph Schumpeter, and Murray Rothbard. Gene is every bit as passionate as Rick when it comes to arguing about economics, so you know this is a good one.
Today I’m presenting my conversation with Gene as a bonus, subscriber-only episode of the podcast. If you’d like to get access to this episode and much more, please consider clicking below and becoming a subscriber today
