Jason Riley & Gerald Early – A Conversation about Late Admissions
And a note on the attempted assassination of Donald Trump
Last Thursday, the Manhattan Institute sponsored a conversation between me, Jason Riley, and Gerald Early about my memoir, Late Admissions: Confessions of a Black Conservative. Most of the interviews I’ve done about the book focus on my revelations about infidelity, drugs, and betrayal. That’s understandable. I knew those parts of the book would be shocking to readers, so I don’t blame journalists for wanting to talk about them.
But in leading the discussion, Jason decided to take a different approach and focus on the relationship between my life and my changing political views. The result is a conversation that’s a bit different than others I’ve had about the book. The addition of the great writer and cultural critic Gerald Early lent some literary heft to the affair as well.
Unfortunately, there were some technical glitches, for which I apologize. But they didn’t hinder the conversation too much, and I hope you enjoy the result.

Yesterday, a would-be assassin shot and wounded Former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Fortunately, Trump appears to be okay. We should all, no matter our political views, condemn this outrageous act of political violence. We should all be relieved that the assassin merely grazed his target, even as we regret the death of the spectator who was killed and the wounding of two others.
Tomorrow’s episode of The Glenn Show, a conversation with the sociologist Benjamin Fleury-Steiner, was recorded several days before the shooting. John McWhorter and I will discuss the incident, along with the controversial comments John made about assassination, for the following episode, which we plan to release to subscribers on Monday, July 22.
I hate being a troll on this subject. But John can go f himself and I dont care what he has to say on the subject of the assassination attempt. He has agreed and promoted the behavior of weaponizing the judicial system against Trump and has wished someone would kill him. He has normalized this type of behavior and thought process. He claims Trump and his supporters should be admonished for normalizing the likes of Trump… well… I have news for you John… you are normalizing far worse behaviors that will destroy this country whose fruits you have enjoyed tenfold.
I hope John can reflect on what happened, on his own horrifying words, and recognize what happens when we dehumanize those we dislike/hate/disagree with. I am praying for supernatural peace amid such evil.
