Are we past Peak Woke? Or is it becoming orthodoxy? Here is a trailer for a new movie from Focus Features, "The American Society of Magical Negroes": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gizIbhk5Eu4.

To be fair, one must wait to see the entire movie before conclusions can be drawn. The movie will be released in March 2024.

If the world could zoom back in time to the 1943 Jewish Warsaw Ghetto uprising in Poland, what would your polarity be, Jew or Nazis? Since that event is now part of a universally accepted grand narrative that it was an evil genocidal assault on the occupants to rob them of their lives, wealth, and land, I don’t see you as critical of anti-Nazi protesters.

There are too many similarities here for me not to call Gaza a Warsaw redux. The Gazans are certainly ghettoized and cut off from the necessities of life, starving without agency and fighting for existence in bunkers, tunnels, and sewer lines, hiding in the same underground fashion as in Poland. Both the Jew and the Palestinian were/or in an identical asymmetrical guerrilla war against a leviathan that was/is out to steal from them. Both have been labeled terrorists for their resistance.

Gaza’s destruction is an attempt by the Israelis to solve the Palestine issue as Warsaw was a segment of the Jewish question’s solution.

The 1947 UN resolution birthing the state of Israel allocated 55 percent of Palestine to Israel and 45 to Palestinians; however, in the 1948 Nakba, Israel ethnically cleansed the land to 78 to 22 percent, respectively.

Presently, with 60 percent of the Palestinian West Bank stolen by Israeli settlers and a war tailored with the intention of shoving Gazans out to the Siani Desert, Palestinian ethnic cleansing is obvious.

As such, I don’t get your polarity.

Judeo-Nazi … a term coined by Yeshayahu Leiblowitz, a Jewish orthodox polymath at Hebrew University in Jerusalem who coined the term in the aftermath of the ’67 war when he presciently foresaw where Israel was going to go if it was going to lord over millions of Palestinians.

Netanyhahu … “First we are going to bomb, then we will go in with tanks, then with bulldozers. When we are finished the place will be uninhabitable.” … Jewish values in a nutshell. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/12/27/turkeys-erdogan-says-netanyahu-no-different-than-hitler-as-gaza-is-bombed

Coming across the email right now is Maharat Rori Picker Neiss from St. Louis JCRC--"The work of community relations is rarely glorified and often challenging, but in my eight years at JCRC I have witnessed firsthand the power of relationships to open dialogue and overcome stereotypes. I am encouraged when we sit together in the murky spaces that do not lend themselves to a simple tweet or pithy social media post. This work — the real work — is not measured in quick wins or in selfies, but in thousands of coffee meetings and phone calls, honest interactions and painful truths, a vulnerability of self and a possibility of rejection, and in showing up time and time again knowing that others will show up when we need them, but more than that, knowing that it is the right thing to do."

I think that Jewish cultural gatekeepers will refuse to work with many of the loudest pro-Palestinian voices or even the people who signed a petition that didn't explicitly condemn Hamas. But if Jewish cultural gatekeepers feel more like a besieged minority in their own country then they have more incentive to find stories which are against bigotry against other groups AND have actual complexity and nuance. I finally finished Brandon Taylor's "The Late Americans" this month (over 2 Friday nights) and the first thing I will say about it if I can ever brave Twitter again is that one of the stories Taylor tells you will recognize if you have been around hyper-progressive discourse at all--but that story is real. The story which you will recognize if you have been around contrarian discourse at all is also real and based on things Brandon Taylor really experienced. In part the book shows the connective tissue between the two stories and how the very clever idiots in the writing workshop are trying to create a safe bubble with their language even if it deliberately leaves out a great part of the world.

That said idiots completely did not get either of Seamus's poems because they were committed to a single story is both funny and sad at once. Also I had to look this up but Medusa became a Gorgon because she claimed to be more beautiful than Athena and Perseus gave Athena the Gorgon's head to be on her shield. That Athena is not mentioned once in any of the dialogue we hear is ridiculous.

From a Muslim-American perspective; some are pro-Hamas and others like me are anti-Hamas. When we vote, it would be wise to consider that the same team that supports terrorism also supports pediatric-Trans. Every child is potentially at risk. I predict that more Muslims will be voting with intent of protecting children from such harm.

Jon, you're all too right that the team supporting HAMAS is on board with the movement to "trans away the gay" when detected in time in children and teens. The "Queers for Palestine" flaunt their ignorance; the zealots of HAMAS would happily throw them off the nearest tall building. It's the sort of thing you might expect when "feelings" are substituted for evidence and "my truth/your bigoted superstition", for the truth.

Several questions for Mr. Loury and Mr. WcWhorter:

Is there a tension between the Black Civil Rights and Jewish Civil Rights movements over which group's grievances are more important -- inherent anti-semitism in the West vs racism in the United States specifically?

Did the Woke movement of the last decade borrow its systemic-racism argument in part from the movement against anti-semitism in the 90s which argued that anti-semitism was an inherent psychological condition in the Christian West?

Has the decade's-long Woke movement simply outrun the US attention span while simultaneously being displaced by the return of attention on anti-semitism after the Oct 7 attacks and protests?

Will the so-called Woke movement now recede only to re-emerge under a new, and possibly more radical banner in the decades ahead? If so, what might it look like?

One additional question related to the Oct 7 attacks and the Civil Rights movement: The 2016 film Birth of A Nation, the historical drama of Nat Turner, won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. The film left out the portrayal of the killing of several dozen women and children. Could such a popular perception of the Nat Turner rebellion explain, in part, the support by some in the US of Hamas and the Oct 7 attack? Or might the perception of the Nat Turner rebellion by the same people who awarded the movie the Grand Jury Prize in 2016 now be changed because of the Oct 7 attack?

There is a concern that we are being asked to provide cover for a genocide. Many have used the bombing of Dresden as justification for Israel’s actions Thry neglect to mention the Geneva Conentions provisions for pro texting civilian populations. Pointing this out gets you labeled an anti-Semite

Many slave rebellions involved slaughter of enslavers and their families..I have no sympathy for the enslavers.

So you and John couldn't see it coming but Saturday Night Live saw it 8 years ago?

You are correct that mockery and shaming are the strongest weapons available to Western Democracies to use against death cults such as Hamas.

I was shocked and frightened to learn that elite institutions were intentionally producing racists. I thought they only produced numbskulls.

Shockingly they are producing both but what I like about the video is the inclination that the white over-educated female would have an affinity for the most debased masculine qualities imaginable. To say that you couldn't see this coming is disingenuous or supremely ignorant. Saturday Night Live sure saw come in 8 years ago. But then again for academics they are cloistered and if it's outside their journals or the New York Times They just don't see it coming. Even those that come from the street after a certain amount of time become just another obtuse intellectual Elite... I get that that sounds way too harsh and unfair but to be honest our institutions of Higher Learning not only allowed this to happen but drove the train. Where did all these young impressionable Minds get their information? Only one place that the rich go to get indoctrinated and that's the university and particularly the ivy league.
