When I launched The Glenn Show 2.0 back in late 2021, I wanted to see if I could take the video podcast I’d been doing for years and turn it into a freestanding, financially sustainable operation. With Nikita Petrov developing the show’s creative vision and digital expansion and Mark Sussman helming the editorial operation—along with the able assistance of Lukas Sluzar, who keeps the show looking and sounding sharp—we’ve found a combination that works.
In fact, it works so well that we haven’t stopped. We haven’t missed a single post or delayed an episode in the time since we established our production and publication schedule, which is feat with a team this small. We all agreed early on that we would stick to our established publication schedule, no matter what. No excuses. That was the right approach. We’ve grown our audience here on Substack and YouTube, created a massive archive in the process, and—I hope—produced some pieces that will stand the test of time.
But that kind of consistency comes with costs. I don’t mean financial costs. The work involved with keeping the machine humming leaves little time to step back and consider the big picture. We knew we’d have to take a breather at some point. That time has come.
The world today is different than the world of four years ago. My life is different. My time is more precious to me now. And I want to make sure that I change along with the changing world rather than remaining mired in the past and fading into obsolescence. So the team and I are going to pause almost all of our production during the month of June. I want to take that time to think about what I really want to do with this newsletter and my YouTube channel and how I want to engage with our new, post-Covid, post-woke, Trump 2.0, multipolar, teetering-on-the-edge-of-Cold-War-II-and-World-War-III, AI-fueled reality.
In June, I won’t be posting regular weekly episodes, clips, or writing. The team and I are going to use that time to develop and test some ideas we’ve been kicking around. We will be posting some content, though. I may do some bonus episodes with Mark, Nikita, and LaJuan. I may experiment with livestreaming. I’ll record a Q&A episode with John McWhorter. A lot of it will depend on what we cook up in the weeks to come. Don’t be surprised if you find something surprising in your inbox. Everything we do next month will be available only to full subscribers—so if you want to see what we’re up to, consider becoming one.
The Glenn Show will resume on Monday, June 30. You can think of this as an early summer break, though Nikita, Mark, and I will be working behind the scenes. We don’t quite know what we’ll come up with, but that’s what makes it exciting. If there’s anything you’d like to see from us, or any ideas you think we should consider, drop them in the comments below. Thank you for everything you’ve done to support The Glenn Show. See you soon.
After watching every episode of Glenn and John and downloading them, I can say that these guys deserve a break. I have been a loyal fan since 2017, and I remembering becoming an official paid member in the fall of 2020 on Patreon. I have collected every episode onto my desktop and iPod. I also have their individual guest appearances on other shows.
Glenn and John have been an inspiration for me as a grad student. My doctoral thesis will include so much of their work.
Funny, because I noticed you and John both sounded a bit tired during your last chat. I hope you enjoy your break!
