I saved this conversation as a treat for when I was done with the first half of the memoir and it did not disappoint. I could listen to Glenn tell stories all day. To reiterate what was already said: yes, I want to see more of these conversations.

I loved this!!! It was a great way to learn about your life growing up in a conversational voice vs. structured and formal one. I also went to college n Chicago and spent lots of time from the 70’s to present day there, so hearing about the evolution of the south side was really interesting. I had very limited insights beyond the legacy of the Robert Taylor Homes and projects or Hyde Park and the University. Well into my fifth decade of life, I have seen cities and neighborhoods go through many iterations and it isn’t always (up and to right!).

Please do more of these!

This was WONDERFUL! Living history from someone you feel as though you "know" is just different. More of these, Glenn! Maybe John can someday open up his Philadelphia history books. 🥃

According to Donald J. Robertson's Substack on "Stoicism: Philosophy as a Way of Life": [Marcus Aurelius] Argued that Kindness is More Manly than Anger.

See how far kindness gets you with this crowd (or any other overture in the interest of truth and understanding). Sowell lied about a war that shaped everything you see today — and got off scot-free (as did both parties). Lemme save you some time: The first word that doesn't reflect someone seeking in-depth discussion — will be the last word I read. Thank you 🙏

Dear Professor. I have the book, and I definitely love these vignettes. I'll take any you care to share, even the ones that may not have made the book!

Seems to me the only way someone would land on "Columbia" as the one city they know from South Carolina is if they memorized their state capitals. It's not the most memorable city in South Carolina by a long shot.

Thank you for this, sharing these conversations is truly a generous gift to those of us who read your book, and listen to you podcasts.

In the second printing, I suggest a photograph section. We all want to see the regal Aunt Eloise and her consort, Uncle Moodie!

Great! Nikita and the rest have their work cut out for them. Make more of these! It's fascinating to hear your recollections as your editor helps you go down memory lane.

Don't be too hard on yourself! What came to mind was St. Augustine worrying himself excessively over having stolen a few pears from his neighbor's tree during his misspent youth. Doesn't matter anymore. What matters is the righteous life you have led since the light bulb went on.

God bless!

Oh my. You must read the full memoir. It’s incredibly entertaining, beautifully written, terribly honest, and very, very painful.
