Why is Pete Hegseth Trump’s pick for secretary of defense? That’s a sincere question. He’s a military veteran best known to the public for his appearances on Fox News, and his politics seem to mesh with Trump’s. But he doesn’t have the kind of CV we usually associate with the lead defense policy-maker in the nation. There are questions, too, about his judgment and fitness for a position that senior. In this clip from my conversation with Nonzero’s Robert Wright, we discuss why Trump may have picked Hegseth and why, despite the pushback, he appears to be standing by his man.

Wow. RobertWright was unable to give Glenn a straight up response to 'what would be case for Pete Hegseth?' This reminds me of an acquaintance who is a Congressional staffer and his response to me about other Trump policies, "oppose, oppose, oppose." That doesn't take us very far in helping the listener go beyond MSNBC versus FOX NEWS punditry. Maybe that's reason enough for GOP senators to vote for Hegseth. Just a matter of choosing sides in a pickup game of stickball.
