Senator JD Vance of Ohio campaigned in Pennsylvania at an event organized by Lance Wallnau, who described Vice President Kamala Harris’s debate performance as “witchcraft.”

We observe Roseanne Barr appearing onstage with Tucker Carlson as she describes Democrats as vampires. Carlson laughed. The modern Republican party is insane. No one in the party is brave enough to call out the Trump inspired lunacy.

No sane person is going to take advice from the GOP.

John is one of the most respectable, clearheaded, thoughtful, analytical, honest and insightful people I have ever seen talk in public, read, and follow. Except (my opinion) on the subject of "all things Trump". It is perplexing to me, but I see no difference on that one singular topic than views held by Robert Reich, Laurence Tribe, Rachel Maddow, or for that matter Whoopie Goldberg and the angry hens from The View. These and others openly and blatantly lie about Trump (citing the Russia Hoax, Charlottesville Hoax, 2025 Project Hoax, Hunter laptop Hoax, ..., as if none have been absolutely disproven and completely fabricated, which all and more were). But this abbreviated list of miscreants is the open Opposition and is comfortable lying to ensure Harris, Biden, or any Democrat past or present takes office. They are Democrat Party partisans and no more than that. John, on the other hand, is a serious and honest person, so I hold him out far from these others.

Vance, like so many other intelligent people I know and am familiar with (Bill Ackman, David Sacks, Nicole Shanahan, ...), have decided that Trump, despite his many, many shortcomings, is a better choice. The things I can observe with my own two eyes: high prices on goods and services (try to go to Disney without going into debt!), massive increases in crime with no corresponding punishment, inner city violence, child and adult human trafficking, censorship, lawfare (not just Trump, but many of the Jan 6ers, some of whom have served months or years in jail and NEVER ENTERED THE CAPITOL), schools collapsing under the weight of Equity and sexual depravity, ... All these things are embraced by the Democrat Party in its current form.

Also ... this is now a political party of, by, and for the elite. The Democrat Party puts more resources into protecting Martha's Vineyard than they do into protecting Springfield, OH; East Palestine, OH (remember them???); Aurora Colorado. Has our current VP and Presidential candidate offered a single word of support to the people who have just watched their houses get washed into the ocean from Hurricane Helene? Not one word ... but then again, this is a generally poor part of the country that votes Red, so no wonders there.

Vance aspires to be VP. As such it is his duty to support the top of the ticket. If he wanted to "Rick Wilson" or "Dick Cheney" Trump, he would not have (or should not have) agreed to run for VP. He can privately hold disagreements - and should - but should work those out privately, and not in public. For contrast, there is not one millimeter of different or disagreement between any Pres/VP pair on the Left. The Dem Party allow absolutely no dissent whatsoever on any issue. Case studies: Lorie Lightfoot and Erick Adams. Apparently that type of agreement is not "selling out"?

I find Vance to be thoughtful and honest. He has to help out his boss who can't help but trip over himself (often), but like it or not is "his boss" in this. I don't see this as selling out. I see this as taking a principled stance to save our country from things that have taken it far off its tracks, and standing behind a person who has many flaws, but at least has the guts to fight against the tide of awfulness pouring out from the other end.

Violent crime spiked in 2020 during Trump's presidency and has fallen to levels not seen since before Trump took office. If crime concerns you, why do want a president who presided over a crime wave to return to office?

Expand full comment

Dead wrong. The crime spiked during the BLM riots, and is still at much higher rates than it was before Covid. The crime wave was instigated by those who preached 'defund the police', and those who forced people to stay home, wear masks, and take the vaccine, not Trump.

If you are going to lead with "dead wrong" you should get your facts straight.

The President during the BLM riots was Donald Trump. So we agree that he presided over a crime wave.

I have a close friend who lives in Springfield. The pet story is an internet meme that should not have been mentioned by Trump. However, the city has taken in an inordinate number of Haitians, far beyond their capacity to assimilate them, due to a government program. The Haitinas get govenment money to compete for housing and services, at th expense of the long term residents. And the goose population of the city park has been decimated by Haitians eating them. My friend says the park was overrun by geese, so this is not comletely a bad thing. But it did happen.

Many of the Haitians are hard-working good citizens. But the large number of young men without jobs has increased crime substantially.

Expand full comment

"due to a government program"

The reason they are in Springfield Ohio, and not somehwhere else in the US, is not because of a government program - it is because there are jobs there.

There are certainly going to be growing pains associated with such a large influx of immigrants, but what the anti-immigration types don't like to admit is that the story isn't all negative. By working they keep factories open, bring revenue to the community and taxes paid to the government. It's not a one-sided story.

What is a Haitina?

You friends story is not supported by law enforcement, the Mayor, or the Governor.

Does your friend have pictures?

So far, the only people supporting your friend’s story are white supremacists.

Expand full comment

Yeah I could care less about ridiculous internet memes and fabricated outrage. In Philly 10 -15 years ago people were consuming a drug called "bath salts" and in a few cases some clinically insane drug addicts pulled eyes and ears out and chewed off a few noses. It would not have been worth anybody's time, and a complete lie to say "because of Obama's policies humans are eating faces in Philly", even if something like that happened once or twice. That (like the cats and dogs) is way beyond the point.

The point is:

Springfield OH has roughly 58,000 residents (or did in 2022). There are according to the media, between 15,000-20,000 "refugee migrants" that were settled by our federal government in Springfield (many walked across the border, many more were flown in by our government). That is between 26% - 34% of the population of Springfield. No town can possibly support that type of population growth over night. It is a crisis. You can't build enough housing, enough grocery stores, create enough jobs, to support that sort of UNPLANNED population growth in 2 years. The Springfield public school district has 7,700 students (2023, according to their website). If 25% of these migrants are school age, and assume the low end of the range (15,000 migrants), that is 3,750 new students enrolled in 2 years. or almost half the school's current enrollment. No school district can simply enroll 3700 new students like that. Also, many of these kids might not even speak English - Haitian languages are French and Creole. So the schools get several thousand new students over night who speak Creole or French, and the administration has to figure it out. Not to mention hospitals (gonna hire 500 new doctors, NPs, and RNs overnight too)?

In Martha's Vineyard - far far far wealthier than Springfield on average - the population is about 20,000. Roughly 50 migrants (0.3% of the population, and no children) were flown to MV. The media melted down, and within one day the town had evicted every single one of them. Morning Joe called Abbott from Texas an inhuman monster. Same with everyone in the media, and most of the Dem party leaders. HOW DARE somebody send 50 migrants into their community. This community, don't you know, is reserved for multi-millionaires and billionaires. Their children need to feel safe. Their hospitals must be kept clean and clear of "third world refuse". If a movie star or investment banker takes ill, there better not be a single "day laborer" standing in line in front of them, or heads will roll.

This is my point. The administration today imposed this on Springfield knowingly. Yet the party of "the little people"; the party of "caring"; the party of "no hate"; the party of "empathy"; they not only did this, but they will do it over and over and over again. They will impugn and destroy anyone who protests, they will watch as the small rural towns collapse under the weight of 20%, 30%, 40%, ..., population growth over night (not to mention there are plenty of bad actors mixed in, even if small in percentage terms).

But because Vance runs with Trump, he (Vance) is a "sell out". I don't get it. My opinion.

I'd bet that the Haitian pet eating stories are true. Why wouldn't they be be? In Durban, South Africa, one could buy a 'bunny chow' for fifty cents. It required handing over a loaf of bread that the chef would cut it in half, empty out the contents of the bread, and ladle into each half a delicious rich curry meaty curry. It was called a 'bunny chow'. Absolutely delicious and cheap LOL. We only half joked that the cats and dogs were scarce in those poverty neighbourhoods in the vacinity of the Indian Market. Eating possums in Chile is common and advertised along the rural roads.? Americans like John McWhorter are precious and have no idea how people in poverty survive. A 'bunny chow' when one is starving is absolutely delicious LOL. Haitian immigrants would be laughiing at the sqeamish Americans LOL.

Dr Loury’s response to Vance’s comments is disappointing. Before putting a target on a group of Ohio citizens, one would expect a Senator and Vice Presidential candidate to do some research. A neighbor can gossip, a political candidate is held to a higher standard. The Republican Presidential candidate repeated the slander during a debate.

The problem is compounded when Vance says he doesn’t care about physical threats and bomb threats based on the lie.

Clay Higgins a Republican member of the House of Representatives verbally attacks Haitians for filing a lawsuit against Trump and Vance. He tells Haitians to leave the United States. Republicans have no moral authority to lecture other citizens about culture. Republicans have lost their collective minds.

I think Vance made it clear this past week, on the MS media, that he was less interested in whether or not dogs and cats were being eaten in Springfield, Ohio, and more interested in promoting a national discussion of the cultural impact of large volumes of immigrants entering communities in our country. He basically said he'd ride the cat story in order to get the migrant story on the board. Is that " selling out" as John McWhorter suggests. It might be called strategic politicking...

Vance is a Sentaor from Ohio, which means the residents of Springfield, Ohio are his constituents. Springfield is the main population center in its county, which voted for Trump in 2020 and Vance (for Senate) in 2022. So a majority of the voters in Springfield are not just his constituents but are actually people who voted for him for Senate and are about to vote for him (as VP) again this year.

And what has he done for them? He's brought them dozens of bomb threats and building closures. Every American deserves better than that from their Senator.

Vance did not bring them threats, leftist idiots called in those threats. People are responsible for their actions not the actions of others.

I was going to write "what happened to John McWhorter?" but someone already did. No one would mistake McWhorter for carrying water for the right. I'm going to diagnose him with TDS. I know the symptoms; I had it myself. #1 Donald Trump is the most liberal Republican politician ever to run for president. #2 Anyone who says there is no "evidence" for the "dogs & the cats in Springfield, Ohio," has not bothered to watch/listen to the many accounts – testimonies – of Springfield OH residents begging their city council members to do SOMETHING to deal with the momentous crises that have been created in their towns and cities by the Biden-Harris regime. Testimony is evidence. It's evidence in a court of law. Testimony was evidence – "proof" according to my former lifelong party and their Legacy media serfs – when Christine Blasey Ford accused Brett Kavanaugh of rape. But testimony of ordinary people, that's not even considered evidence. What do you want? Do you expect people to bring a roasted cat corpse or a decapitated duck (in which case they'd be told, "you got proof you didn't roast/decapitate that animal yourself"?) to the city council meeting?

The people who dismiss the cats, dogs, and the ducks in Springfield could have walked off the pages of Rob Henderson's "Troubled." They are the luxury citizens who'll never have to suffer the consequences and costs their luxury beliefs inflict on working people in America. James at "Empty Pockets Garage" (YT) in Springfield, OH will tell you all about it.

Read his article in The Lamp. It actually explains his converson better than most ideology essays you'll read; I think he holds his Faith honestly even if I disagree with its reality. Basically; Faith, Family, and Christian values are beyond rational analysis. These values are the point of life and the purpose, so if facts contradict them, it's the logic that led you to question Faith as wrong and not the Faith itself.

Notably absent is how reality itself tends to punish those who ignore it. But viewed through the lens of Faith, it is Reason that is to blame for sin and destructive of the Soul. "Material" gains are hollow if they cost one your soul.

So I don't think he "sold out". I don't think he ever really held what he describes as his "neo liberal" values such as atheism honestly, he admits as much. He put God aside to fit in, not because he thought you could get values from the facts of reality. He didn't "believe" Sam Harris and the rest, he regurgitated back to the chorus of liberals what he thought they wanted to hear. In short, there was nothing really there for him to betray. He was brought up religious, and later found reasons to return to it - and even more so than as a child with the grandmother who raised him.

I'm with John (and Michael) on this. Vance became part of the post-liberal communitarian movement, which he says he came to (along with the Catholic church) after he wrote the book. But before 2020. In his run for the Senate and now as the VP nominee, he has sold his soul to Trump. Like Glenn, I'm less sure about the "lying" conclusion. Never underestimate the power of human beings to rationalize what they want to believe. But otherwise I think John is on the mark. This guy changed to get himself in line with the Trumpist version of the GOP. Power corrupts, and not all corruption is financial.
