It's interesting that when you look back a couple generations and discovered back in those 'Green Book' days, how important it was for a certain class of Negroes to make very stringent distinctions among themselves. With integration there was a certain dilution of the membership in black fraternal organizations, but it meant something important in my grandparents' day to be a Mason or an Elk.

If we are not to despair about the fate of the nominally black nation, then we have to embrace some social meritocracy. If we do not, we are subject to become 'the' black community in every way the race chasers desire. So I think now is the time for some open, vocal and visual tribal rebellion.
