I think we are making a simple situation complicated. You either believe in due process or you don’t. The circumstances are irrelevant. What the universities are doing is inexcusable if you believe in due process. Full stop. There are no exceptions. Whatever happened to the fundamental principle that a person is innocent until proven guilty. And not allowing a person to call witnesses in defense? Really? In the 21st century in the USA? This is exactly backwards. What is wrong with us that we can get to this point and that anyone will argue about it?

"Rape culture" is another of the ridiculous ideological figments conjured up by the Victim Studies zealots of Left academia.

What exactly defines a "culture"? At the very least, shared texts, shared customs, rituals, songs, books etc. Outside of the more vulgar corners of Hip Hop, where does this culture exist? I'm a man, grew up of course w many men, and none of my elders sat me down at 16 to share glorious tales of rape, we didn't bond over the joys of rape, when I brought home my first girlfriends from high school my father wasn't rooting for me to rape her, and we certainly never sat around the campfire extolling the virtues of rape.

Now of course this doesn't mean that there aren't vile aggressive men who mistreat women, and that in our libertine colleges there will always be boys who cross the line during a drunken amorous encounter and try to take advantage. (I believe this aspect of culture was best explained by Meatloaf's seminal text, "Paradise by the Dashboard Light";))

But for every vile oaf there are many more men (young and old) who try to protect women in potentially ugly situations, and for every toxic man there are ten times as many of us raised to be chivalrous.

There is no such thing as "rape culture" and if there were, it died out sometime prior to the 21st century. If we are going to dethrone the Social Justice termites currently doing their best to chew through our society, the first step has to be pointing out their false and dishonest narratives.
