8:17 I find it funny that Glenn thinks that following a dozen people indicates that his wife is a "podcast addict." I have well over fifty podcasts in my list, though I don't listen to every episode.

Glenn,

I just subscribed for a year, after watching this interview on YouTube. I've never seen Substack before and only discovered its existence because of your YouTube postings. I've seen, enjoyed and shared your discussions, primarily with John, for a couple of months now. While seemingly able to hear your discussions for free on YouTube, I wanted you to get paid. That's it. I just think you should be paid.

In this episode, which I just watched on YouTube, you mentioned you put in the effort to read comments. So I left one over there. After subscribing here and very briefly scanning the layout, I wondered if you meant you read the comments here on Substack. So, not that it's a momentous or noteworthy comment, I'll copy and paste it here. I'm not a big commenter on things and have zero social media presence. I do have great admiration for you (and John as well) and feel lucky to be able to express that admiration and gratitude here. I guess that's the positive side of this whole interweb thing. Thank you, Glenn.

From YouTube: Glenn, you mentioned you read these comments. That's the only reason I'm leaving one. I guess if I have something to say which stood a chance of being a constructive contribution in future, I'd leave another one but we'll see.

I have a mental habit or game, sort of like having three wishes and what to do with them. But it's like this: "If I could pick anyone in the world to sit down to lunch with, hopefully on our front porch, and extend the conversation into the afternoon, who would it be?" The answer has changed over time. Right now, if you're not at the top, you're top two or three. If it's you and John, then you beat anyone else, hands down. Why? Respect, certainly. I've been pausing for a while to think of a more thorough answer and it keeps coming back to this. You help me think. You help me consider matters and try to explain them fairly, help me steer away from the hot take. (Oh, and I should say critical thinking was actually central to my professional life.) I identified with you very strongly as you described yourself as hating herd mentality. I'm sure we share that, and other traits, as hard-baked, lifelong elements of our personalities. Anyway, I'm aged 64 and grew up trying to make sense of a lot of nonsense. And by accident found myself as an adult in the middle of a public life environment loaded with other kinds of nonsense. So, in our imaginary conversation, I have something to contribute, even as I would be there to listen. That's the point of such conversations, right? I used to tell the young people in my charge to listen; you can't learn while you're talking.

Anyway, I respect your decades of experience as well as the open and forthright way you both take on important topics and express your well supported reasons for your evolving thoughts. If you're ever in Northern California, you have a roof over your head and home cooking. My wife and I would be privileged to have you. -G

I was surprised to hear that you follow Alex Berenson. I follow him as well even though sometimes he gets a bit carried away. Other sub stacks worth looking at on COVID, big Pharma etc. stuff are:

eugyppius, a German STEM person who goes at it deep and hard but without the raving and ranting.

bad cattitude aka el gato malo, a Puerto Rican American with lots of STEM depth and a bizarre sense of humor.

Vinay Prasad, A self declared progressive Doctor at UCSF who has come out with guns blazing about COVID screw ups and the malfescence of the CDC, FDA and White House advisors.

Glenn--I started following you in June 2020 and recently became a paying subscriber. Always appreciate hearing your opinions and those of your guests, especially when the opportunity exists to learn from two different points of view. I thoroughly enjoy your conversations with John, even if I tend to lean more toward Team Glenn. I was also pleasantly surprised to hear that you read Alex Berenson. Yes, he's entertaining and, as you admitted, he's often correct. Given your massive (well-earned and well-deserved) success on Substack, would it kill you to become a paying subscriber of Unreported Truths? I try to pay for as many Substacks as I can (though clearly a new bundling model is needed) to signal to those producers that I respect their time, intellect, research, independence and hard work.

PS Given your alliance with the Manhattan Institute, thank you for reducing your subscription price to USD$50. That translates to $70 Canadian dollars (plus credit card fees) for your followers north of the borders.

I feel somehow intimidated, shy I guess, to be the first person to comment. Just want to say how much I appreciate how much I gain from being one of your subscribers, wish I had begun much sooner. We're the same age, but I am a white guy in Appalachia, never lived elsewhere, retired instructor/wildlife biologist. So, your world and mine scarcely overlap. And my politics are somewhat to the left of your buddy John McWhorter. How could I not be, seeing what the coal industry has done to my land and people. Actually, I am a great admirer of Freddy deBoer, and of Adolf Reed Jr. But I intend to never miss your offerings, perhaps over time you'll shift me a bit your direction. I welcome your efforts.
