The whole Glenn Loury story is interesting and informing. However, I discovered Glenn after he had matured into success and it is that Glenn that I admire and respect. I am pleased that he does not recognise the younger-self. Glenn is smart and gifted, he is exorcising his failures. Advice to Glenn: "don't be easy to forgive yourself, lest you tempt the bad wolf".

A worthy read, best I've read today so far. Putting out the truth of your experience offers something of real value to the world.

Excellent excerpt. As a Christian, I know God's still at work in your life, Glenn.

Dear Prof. Loury, I always enjoy all of these, even when the discussions repeat themselves. However, I really do have to ask one thing, something that was already mentioned by another subscriber., that being.. did you try to get on Rogan?? There is no doubt in my mind that Rogan would revel in discussing so many aspects of your life story, though he probably wouldn't had prepared by reading the book ahead of time, and you'd have to do most of the steering for what would had been a very long and potentially physically exhausting (especially given your ongoing recover) interview. The Rogan audience also probably wouldn't be as "scholarly" as you might prefer, but the exposure itself .??? I have to wonder what that might had done to those book sales :) too bad Oprah is no longer around? btw. I am curious if you are pleased or less than expected at the book's sales? I know you were probably unable to do this, given your operation, but Maher would had been been good and he would probably be happy to have you sit in the chair for that 15 min convo (perhaps not as long as you'd like)

My Episcopal minister, whom I loved as a brother in Christ, used to say you don’t fall out of love, real love is never ending in God’s realm. So you never were in love in the first place. I thought it a bit harsh. But truth often hurts.

So, Glenn, you will always be a child of God, He doesn’t fall out of love with you even if you do so with Him. Your in and out of love with God makes no difference. As the scripture goes: “If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. NIV Romans 14:8.

So why did you stop being a believer? It seems that it was not ‘temptation’ but rather so sort of need for logical or intellectual ‘proof’, of God. In other words, your brain got in the way. You are the reincarnation of Dr. Faustus and you want ‘knowledge’ and fame more than morality. Beware such a bargain with satan. . God thinks that his creation speaks for itself. He doesn’t feel a need to prove himself to us mere mortals.

This is unduly judgemental and based on limited knowledge.
